China: Where Ancient Civilisation Meets Modern Wonder
The Middle Kingdom
China has this incredible way of throwing you between two worlds at once. One minute you're standing somewhere that's been sacred for a thousand years, the next you're surrounded by skylines that look like they're from the future. With over 5,000 years of history behind it, China isn't just a place you visit — it's a place that completely resets how you think about time.

Urban Marvels and Culinary Heritage:
Beijing and Shanghai are proof that old and new don't have to compete — they just get on with it, side by side. Futuristic towers sit right next to centuries-old hutongs and temples, and somehow it all works. The food scene is just as varied: think delicate Cantonese dim sum one day, fiery Sichuan hotpot the next. Every region has its own thing going on, and it's all worth trying.
Landscapes Beyond Imagination:
Step outside the cities and China gets properly dramatic. The karst peaks around Guilin look like they've been lifted from a painting, the rice terraces of Yunnan roll on forever, and the deserts along the old Silk Road feel like another planet entirely. Wherever you go, there's history layered into the landscape — you just have to know where to look, which is where we come in.

Unmissable China Experiences:
- The Great Wall of China – Everyone knows the name, but walking it is something else. Skip the crowds near Beijing and head to Mutianyu or Jinshanling instead, where you get the same jaw-dropping views without the elbows in your ribs.
- The Forbidden City, Beijing – Nearly 500 years of emperors lived here, and you can feel it. With 980 surviving buildings and endless detail everywhere you look, give yourself proper time to wander this one.
- Terracotta Army, Xi'an Thousands of life-sized warriors, each one different, all guarding a 2,000-year-old tomb. Discovered by accident in 1974, it's still one of the wildest archaeological finds ever made.
- Li River Cruise, Guilin – This is the scenery that's been inspiring Chinese art for centuries, and once you see it in person, you'll understand why. Surreal limestone peaks rising straight out of the water.
- The Bund and Yu Garden, Shanghai – Glittering skyscrapers on one side, a peaceful centuries-old garden a short walk away. It's a great snapshot of how modern China sits alongside its past.
- Giant Panda Base, Chengdu – Come here for the pandas, stay for how ridiculously happy it'll make you. Go early in the morning when they're at their most active (translation: adorable).
- Worth exploring further: Hangzhou (lake and tea), Suzhou (gardens and canals), Pingyao (ancient walled city), Lijiang & Dali (old towns, mountains), Guangzhou (Cantonese food hub), Harbin (ice festival, winter).
